Chiltern Rangers Wildflower Nursery
Supporting nature to thrive
Tucked away on Hammersley Lane in Tylers Green is a flourishing community project that is helping nature and people thrive.
Bird’s Foot Trefoil
The Community Wildflower Nursery, run by Chiltern Rangers, has transformed from a blank canvas into a vibrant and welcoming space where local people come together to grow native wildflowers destined for projects across the Chilterns and beyond.
From NHS hospital gardens and schools to sheltered accommodation and public spaces, these home-grown plants are creating richer habitats for wildlife while bringing colour and life to our communities.
The nursery is open to everyone, regardless of age, experience or ability. Volunteers play a vital role in every aspect of the project, from sowing seeds and watering young plants to maintaining the growing areas and preparing plants for their new homes. Along the way, friendships are formed, new skills are learned and people enjoy the many wellbeing benefits that come from spending time outdoors.
Over the past few years, the nursery has gone from strength to strength. New growing spaces, raised beds and accessible pathways have been created with support from schools, local businesses and community partners. Volunteers have helped nurture hundreds of native wildflowers, many grown from locally collected seed, helping to support pollinators such as bees, butterflies and moths that are so vital to healthy ecosystems.
